Abdullahi Nur Salad
Abdullahi Salad began his term as the 4th chancellor of the University of PUST on July 1, 2020. A celebrated scholar, Abdullahi is also well known as an advocate for quality, accessible public higher education, a proponent of the value of a broad education for all, and a champion of youth issues and equality across Somalia. He firmly believes that PUST is uniquely positioned to provide students with the skills and knowledge they need to achieve their goals. In his role as chancellor, Abdullahi actively supports PUST’s commitment to equity and inclusive excellence, and he is committed to the university’s long heritage of student development and ethical leadership.
Abdullahi has over 40 years of experience in teaching and tertiary education management and worked for African Education Trust (AET) on curriculum development, syllabus writing, and textbook writing for Puntland Schools. In this period, he strengthened Puntland’s education system, producing top-rated teachers and head teachers and advancing major initiatives such as exam supervision and invigilation in the education sector.
Abdullahi achieved his MA in Educational Management degree from the University of Nairobi (UoN) in 2016 and his BA in Physics as a major and Mathematics as a minor from Somali National University (SNU) in 1982. He has also served in other leadership positions, including being a member of the board of PUST, where he led a team of experts to reform the university.
